What Vermont Homeowners Say About Our Work

Our Deck Cleaning Process
-
Walk the Deck First
We look at what the surface actually is before touching it. Composite, Trex, cedar and pressure-treated pine all take different pressure, and guessing is how boards get furred up.
-
Clear and Protect
Furniture, grills and planters come off. Plantings and siding get wet down and shielded so nothing around the deck takes the run-off.
-
Pre-Treat the Growth
Algae, mildew and the green film on the north side get a cleaning solution and time to work. That is what actually kills it, not pressure.
-
Wash at the Right Pressure
Deck power washing is not one setting. Soft washing for composite and Trex, low pressure with the grain on older wood. High pressure is faster and it is also what leaves those permanent wand marks across a board.
-
Rinse and Neutralize
Everything gets rinsed down so no solution dries on the boards or the siding, including the ground around the deck.
-
Let It Dry, Then Look
A wet deck always looks good. We come back to it dry, because that is when you can see what is clean and what needs another pass.
What Makes Us Different From Other Deck Cleaning Contractors
-
We Match Pressure to the Board
Composite deck cleaning and old pine need completely different settings. Getting that wrong is what leaves wand marks you cannot sand out.
-
The Solution Does the Work
Pre-treating and dwell time kill algae and mildew. Crews who skip it just blast the surface and the green is back by August.
-
Priced Before We Start
A deck cleaning service should quote the surface, not just the square footage. Railings and stairs are priced separately and up front.

Common Questions
Can you pressure wash a composite or Trex deck?
Yes, but not at the pressure you would use on wood. Power washing a Trex deck at full pressure scars the cap and that damage does not come out. Composite deck cleaning is a soft wash: low pressure, the right solution, and letting it dwell instead of forcing it.
Will deck pressure washing damage older wood?
It can, and it is the most common thing we get called to fix. Too much pressure tears the soft grain out from between the hard grain and leaves the board permanently fuzzy. On older pine we run low pressure with the grain and let the cleaner do the lifting.
Do you clean pool decks?
Yes. Pool deck cleaning needs a solution that will not hurt the surrounding plantings or end up in the water, and the surfaces around a pool are usually concrete or stone rather than board, so the approach is different to a raised deck.
How often should a deck be cleaned in Vermont?
Once a year for most decks here, usually in late spring once the pollen is down. North-facing sections that stay damp pick up algae faster and sometimes want a second pass in the fall.
Should we stain right after a wash?
Not immediately. The boards need to dry properly first or the finish will not penetrate, and that is the single most common reason a deck stain fails early. We tell you when it is ready rather than staining a damp deck.
